The last Boeing 747 ever built has changed hands in front of thousands of people wanting to say goodbye to the iconic widebody aircraft. Customers, suppliers, celebrities, and current and former employees (including the first staff known as “The Incredibles” who built the first 747) to witness Boeing deliver planes to Atlas Air his worldwide ) gathered at the company’s Everett factory. The event marks the end of production of the aircraft since it was first built in 1967.

Boeing’s last aircraft delivery, including this plane, will be used for cargo transport in the next few years. Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stan Deal said in a statement:

It is fitting that we deliver our 747-8 Freighter to the world.At Atlas Air, the largest operator of the 747, the ‘Queen’ continues to inspire and power air cargo innovation.”
Kim Smith, Boeing’s vice president and general manager of the 747 and 767 programs, said the model’s production line had stopped as workers finished building various parts of the last plane. Employees who worked in the factory are now moving to other programs or voluntarily leaving the company.
