First released by Apple 3rd generation AirPods It sold for $179 in 2021, after which the retail price dropped $10. You can get a pair of wireless earbuds for even less with Amazon currently selling for $150, or $19 less than its regular price these days. Redesigned for a new look with a lighter weight, tapered silhouette and a shorter stem than its predecessor. We don’t have the Pro’s silicone ear tips yet, but we found them to be more comfortable to wear than the older models.
The earbuds come with Apple’s redesigned in-ear detection system, which uses optical sensors to detect if you’re really wearing them. It’s powered by Apple’s H1 chip, so you can easily pair it with the company’s devices and access the always-on, hands-free Siri. When we tested them, we found they sounded better than older models thanks to Apple’s combination of custom drivers and high dynamic range amplifiers for “rich, consistent bass” and “crisp and clean” highs. Ok, this model is also capable of dynamic head tracking and the sound it produces is louder and more immersive.
However, if you’re looking for something even more affordable, Apple’s second generation AirPods It’s also currently on sale for $99 or $60 less than the regular price. They’re not as advanced as their third-generation siblings, but they’re an improvement over the first AirPods, with in-ear detection and automatic device switching.
