Few people know that luxury sports cars are environmentally friendly, but Lamborghini has unveiled its first plug-in hybrid supercar. The Lamborghini Revelto, which means ‘scrambled’, should satisfy any need for speed as long as you don’t care too much about battery life.
In other words, even with this vehicle in all-electric mode, it’s only 6.2 miles (about 6.2 miles) away from a full charge. It might not be enough juice to take you to the grocery store and back, but this is a hybrid vehicle and not intended for full electric use. It alone charges the rather small 3.8kWh battery in just six minutes via regenerative braking on the front wheels.
Battery life isn’t the main reason people buy luxury sports cars (probably not in the top 10), but this engine is designed for power, acceleration and top speed. The relatively light engine (480 pounds) puts out 814 horsepower at a blistering 9,250 rpm. It’s fully Lamborghini, with numerous intake ducts placed throughout to increase the engine’s airflow and deliver a power level of 126 horsepower per liter. The company says this is “the highest output in the history of Lamborghini’s 12-cylinder engine”.
The design is heavily influenced by aerospace engineering with sculpted surfaces, pointed lines and hexagonal exhaust vents. Lamborghini also incorporated design cues from the past, such as the vertically opening scissor doors of 1970s Countach models and the floating blades on the rear he fenders often associated with the Diablo his line.
Of course, the interior is outfitted with all manner of advanced components, including a 12.3-inch digital cockpit with a large center display, an equally large 9-inch passenger-side display, and a host of related infotainment options. It has been. It is also the first Lamborghini to feature advanced driver assistance systems. Finally, there are related smartphone and smartwatch apps to monitor vehicle health, including fuel level, battery, range, and GPS location. This app remotely performs basic tasks such as honking, lighting, and activating locks.
It’s the first step in plans by Lamborghini and parent company Volkswagen, but the brand hopes to enter the 2030s running on synthetic fuels. Shipped at a price. (Free membership registration is required to read.)
