Dominic Raab is reportedly set to resign in the next election after being forced to resign as a cabinet minister over bullying allegations.

Just weeks after a bullying investigation forced him to step down as deputy prime minister, telegram Raab has told his local Conservative Party that he intends to step down in the 2024 election.

Mr Raab has represented Mr Esher and Mr Walton in Surrey since 2010. Surrey has become one of the front-runner seats for the Liberal Democrats in the upcoming elections, as they came within 2,800 votes to oust him on an anti-Brexit platform in 2019.

In a letter to the local Conservative Society, Raab expressed his desire to spend more time with his young sons, ages 8 and 10, the newspaper said.

He reportedly wrote: “Over the last few years, I’ve become increasingly concerned about the pressure work is putting on young families.”

Raab added: “It has been a great honor to represent the Conservative Party in this wonderful constituency since 2010…I will continue to take full responsibility for my voters and provide all my support in the campaign so that we can win here next time.” I am confident that under the leadership of this Prime Minister, we will be able to do so. ”

He joins the exodus of Conservative politicians ahead of the next election, with at least 36 Conservative MPs so far facing a brutal campaign to hold on to power while Labor leads the polls. Instead, he has admitted plans to seek a life outside the House.

Sajid Javid, Matt Hancock, Alistair Jack, Nadine Dries and Sir Graham Brady are among the prominent figures who have said they will not contest the seat. The party also risks losing some of its young talent, as many lawmakers in their 30s and 40s have also decided to leave the party.

Raab was one of the most powerful figures in the governments of Boris Johnson and Rishi Suak, and was one of Johnson’s most powerful figures when the then-Prime Minister was in intensive care during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have also acted as an agent.

He was a key supporter of Mr Sunak’s leadership ambitions, facilitating Mr Sunak’s path to power after Liz Truss’ brief inauguration as prime minister threw them both into the political wilderness. contributed to doing

Sunak rewarded him by appointing him as deputy prime minister and attorney general, but only a month later allegations of bullying surfaced, forcing an investigation into his conduct.

Raab was forced to resign from his cabinet in April after an investigation found two charges of conduct against public officials, but it wasn’t bullying.

Raab argued at the time that the findings were “flawed and set a dangerous precedent for the conduct of good government”, adding that “Ministers provided direct critical feedback on their briefings and submissions to senior officials. You have to be able to give,” he added. We will set standards and drive the reforms that our people expect of us. ”

Sunak replied: “I will continue to thank you for your steadfast and personal support from the day you introduced me to the opening ceremony of last year’s Conservative Party Leadership Election until the very end. Your dedication, devotion, and loyalty typified your belief in public service.

“We look forward to receiving support from the backbench as you continue to passionately represent the voters of Esher and Walton. I wish you every possible success in the future.”
