WhatsApp recently rolled out continuous updates across its platform. The latest news comes in the form of profile updates, with WhatsApp reportedly working on new username options. WA beta information report. His latest WhatsApp for Android beta update includes a new field in the profile section of the app that asks users to select their own handle.
The added option brings WhatsApp one step closer to how we communicate on Instagram, the same Meta-owned app, but lesser-known is how usernames work in the messaging app. This could make a big difference in how people find each other on WhatsApp and have more privacy. Rather than needing to share a personal phone number or QR code to chat, a user-chosen username may suffice. End-to-end encryption is said to still be in place for his WhatsApp conversations initiated by username.
This announcement follows another long-awaited feature release, Message Editing. The update will allow WhatsApp users to modify messages within 15 minutes of being sent, but will result in the word “edited” being written next to the timestamp. The messaging app also unveiled “Chat Lock” in his May, a tool that enables certain one-on-one or group chats with just a password or biometric scan. It also prevents messages from popping up as notifications.
As for usernames, WhatsApp has yet to set a release date or confirm any features. It will probably be available to beta users first when it arrives, before rolling it out to all devices.
