Robert F. Kennedy Jr. praised Elon Musk’s work on Twitter during lengthy debate Conversations in Twitter Spaces.
The presidential candidate called Mr Musk’s Twitter appearance “a breath of fresh air for our country” and praised him for understanding the importance of free expression to American democracy.
At one point during the conversation, Mr. Kennedy asked Mr. Musk about the release of the “Twitter Files,” a series of documents that released inside information about some of Twitter’s content moderation decisions.
Referring to the release of the files, Mr. Kennedy said, “I don’t think Twitter’s lawyers said it was a good idea.” “I was very surprised and happy when you did it yourself.”
Kennedy, nephew of former US President John F. Kennedy, went on to say how much he admires Musk.
“Elon, I just want to tell you how much I respect you and how grateful I am on behalf of my country,” Kennedy said. “You’re here from another country and you’re going to be an important tool in saving America’s democracy and free speech.”
As reported by Insider’s John Cook, Kennedy also compared Tesla’s CEO to the thousands of patriots who died fighting in the American Revolutionary War.
Musk, a self-described “free speech absolutist,” has declared free speech to be a top priority on Twitter under his leadership. In the months following the acquisition, the billionaire has reinstated several previously banned accounts on the platform.
President Kennedy himself has faced an Instagram ban for some anti-vaccine comments. Meta (then known as Facebook) announced in 2021 that it had deleted his account for repeatedly sharing debunked claims. However, since my account was recently reactivated, The Washington Post reported.
Representatives for Musk and Kennedy did not immediately respond to an insider’s request for comment made outside of normal business hours.
