Meta’s future artificial intelligence products may allow you to chat with celebrities. Bloomberg and The New York TimesThe company is in talks with big names across various Hollywood agencies, including Awkwafina, Judi Dench, and Keegan-Michael Key, for AI projects that will apparently incorporate their voices into a conversational generative AI/digital assistant called MetaAI, similar to Siri and Google Assistant.
Meta plans to record their voices and secure the rights to use them in as many contexts as possible, including Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and even Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Bloomberg According to the company, negotiations have been started and stopped multiple times because the two sides could not agree on the terms of use. For now, they seem to have agreed to a time limit, meaning the company can only use the recordings for a certain period of time. However, the contracts with the actors could be renewed or extended before the contracts expire.
While actors’ representatives are negotiating for stricter restrictions, SAG-AFTRA has reportedly reached an agreement with Meta on the terms. As you know, SAG-AFTRA fought for a clause to protect actors from the threat of losing their jobs due to AI during last year’s strike. The clause requires companies to pay actors and get their consent before using their AI-generated likenesses. If Meta reaches an agreement with the actors it is negotiating with, it could pay out millions of dollars in compensation.
Meta aims to close the deal by its Connect conference in September. Times The company said it plans to launch a number of AI products, and at last year’s event it also unveiled a chatbot platform with 28 “characters” voiced by celebrities, including Snoop Dogg, Paris Hilton, Dwyane Wade and Kendall Jenner. information Meta quietly shut down the project, and the celebrity chatbot’s pages on Facebook and Instagram are no longer available, the report said.
