Concerns are growing rapidly that the conflict could escalate into full-scale war.
Tensions have risen in the past week since Tuesday’s Israeli attack on Beirut killed senior Hezbollah military commander Fouad Shukr.
Following the attack, Iran’s UN mission warned that Hezbollah’s counterattack would involve attacks on “wider and deeper targets” inside Israeli territory and that the group “will not limit itself solely to military objectives and means.”

According to the Missile Defense Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Iron Dome is a mobile missile defense system designed to intercept rockets and drones fired from Lebanon and the Palestinian territories.
The system, which has been operational since 2011, consists of three main parts: the Tamir interceptor missile and its launcher, the ELM 2084 multipurpose radar, and a battle management and weapons control system, according to CSIS.
Earlier this year, the system helped thwart a major drone attack launched by Iran.
Between 2011 and 2021, the United States contributed at least $1.6 billion to defense systems.
