A Countrywide Surveying Services poll revealed that more than two-thirds (71%) of real estate professionals are in favor of pre-sale inspections to speed up the home buying and selling process.
The belief that an appraisal is an investigation for the customer’s benefit, not the lender’s, was cited as a major obstacle by 54% of respondents, as many don’t know the difference between an investigation and an appraisal.
When it comes to proactively encouraging renters to complete a home condition inspection, 39% of real estate professionals said they “always” do so, while 36% said they “sometimes” do so.
Matthew Cumber, managing director of Countrywide Surveying Services, said: “It’s clear from these results that the industry sees great value in pre-sale inspections as a way to streamline the home buying and selling process.”
“Providing buyers with as much property-related information as possible up front brings a greater level of transparency and efficiency to such a complex and emotional process.”
“While there are still many barriers to overcome from a consumer perspective, many of these can be addressed relatively easily through education and advice.
“This highlights the importance of everyone involved in the process communicating the right information and messaging about inspections to help consumers make early, informed decisions about the property they want to buy.”
The sessions saw active participation from over 300 people, with the audience including lenders, brokers, inspectors and other real estate professionals.
