Charles McLachlan is an advisor to CEOs and senior leaders in the scale-up business community. With experience in founding and developing technology start-ups, he joined Andersen Business Consulting at its formation, becoming a partner and member of the Global Advanced Technology Advisory Team setting out priorities for the development of new propositions for the fastest-growing consultancy business at that time. In 2002, he founded the Transformation Development Partnership to pursue a portfolio of opportunities: Visiting Professor of Software Enterprise at University College London (2005); Chairman at The Academy for Chief Executives in 2007 (successfully sold to global market leader, Vistage in 2018); Board Director ella forums; In 2009, his work with the boards of two of his clients was recognised by their membership of the Sunday Times Microsoft Tech FastTrack 100. More recently, Charles has worked closely with the founder of the entrepreneur network E2Exchange, established the CEO Growth Academy, founded FuturePerfect, created InspiredCEOs and developed the Portfolio Executive Growth Academy. He is a former trustee of the international Transformational Business Network and trustee of Hallsville Foundation. In December 2019, his work with several litigants wronged by the failures of the Post Office in pursuing convictions of sub-postmasters was vindicated by a settlement of over £100m. In July 2020, he launched a new hospitality, conferencing and training business during the CoVid lockdown at Grade 1 listed Moggerhanger Park in Bedfordshire.

2021 and 2022 has been a tough year for business around the globe. In your experience can you share how businesses prosper in 2023?

For me the three key learnings are: accepting and responding to a VUCA world (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous), building a purposeful impact oriented enterprise and putting the honouring of individuals at the centre of all we do.

The economy has been turned on it’s head in the wake of the pandemic. What should businesses focus on in 2023?

Cashflow, purpose and adaptability.

What are the pro’s & con’s of working from home and have you any first hand experience?

I have been running my business through a home working team distributed team successfully. Many of my clients are continuing to adopt a work from home first approach with in-person team meetings structured for maximum purpose and impact.

How can business owners combat the rise of inflation and what have you done that you can share?

I don’t think we can combat the rise of inflation. We have to accept it and respond to it by delivering more value to those who value it most.

In the last 5 years we have seen the rise to Cryptocurrency, Blockchain, NFT’s, Digital Marketing and many more! What do you think will impact the world most in regards to online selling?

Digital marketing and social media still have a long way to run but we still require personal conversations to offer value in the sales process.

I don’t read anymore!

What is your purpose for getting out of bed each day and what do you aim to achieve in the future?

Enabling people to work with Freedom and Joy so that they have more capacity to offer and experience love in a world where to much work is dominated by Slavery, Toil and Fear.
