meta Employees will have to work in the company’s office three days a week starting in September.
The social networking giant started notifying employees of its new remote work policy on Thursday, but it doesn’t affect existing employees who work primarily remotely.
“We are committed to distributed work and believe people can have a meaningful impact both from the office and from home,” a Meta spokesperson said in a statement. “We are also committed to continually refining our model to foster the collaboration, relationships and culture our employees need to do their best work.”
Technology News Publications The Information first report Meta’s latest work from home policy.
Facebook parent company Meta expanded its remote work policy to all full-time employees for the first time in June 2021. At the time, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company had learned over the past year that “you can do a good job” in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. With the ability to work anywhere and especially remotely, he is even more optimistic that remote work at scale will be possible as his video presence and virtual reality continue to improve,” Zuckerberg said at the time.
Since then, however, many companies, including Amazon and Google parent Alphabet, have reversed their previous plans to work remotely, asking employees to return to physical offices at least three days a week.
Zuckerberg said in March that Meta’s internal analysis showed that engineers who work face-to-face “get more done,” and he intends to update Meta’s policy. I hinted at something.
“Our initial performance data analysis showed that engineers who joined Meta in person and then moved remotely or remained face-to-face performed better on average than those who joined remotely.” Zuckerberg said at the time. “The analysis also shows that an engineer early in his career performs better, on average, if he works directly with a teammate at least three days a week.”
In May, Meta will implement the last major layoffs as part of its “Year of Efficiency”, which will put about 21,000 workers out of work.
