American semiconductor manufacturer Intel On Tuesday, it unveiled a new artificial intelligence chip for data centers, aiming to take on rivals. NVIDIA and Am Over the past two days, upcoming chips have been teased.
Intel’s Xeon 6 processors will deliver better performance and power efficiency for heavy data center workloads compared to previous-generation processors, CEO Pat Gelsinger said at the Computex technology conference in Taiwan.
The announcement came as rivals Nvidia and AMD, vying for dominance in the fast-growing industry, unveiled new AI chips on Sunday and Monday, respectively.
This comes six months after Intel’s announcement. 5th Generation Intel Xeon Processors Announced This comes two months after it announced its Gaudi 3 processor for data center workloads and for training and deploying AI models.
Inter also on Tuesday Price revealed The AI accelerator speeds in Gaudi 2 and Gaudi 3 are lower than competing chips.
“Customers are looking for high-performance, cost-effective AI training and inference solutions and are starting to look to alternatives like Gaudi. Customers want choice. They want open software and hardware solutions, and they want fast time to market with significantly reduced TCO. [total cost of ownership]” said Gelsinger.
Intel also revealed architectural details of its upcoming Lunar Lake processors to “continue to grow the AI PC category.” Luna Lake ChipThe chip, scheduled to ship in the third quarter, will compete with chips from Nvidia and AMD designed specifically for AI PCs.
Intel has largely remained on the sidelines of the AI frenzy that has seen tech giants like Meta, Microsoft and Google buy as many Nvidia chips as they can, but it’s now trying to catch up with Nvidia and AMD.
