AT&T and Verizon On June 4, customers found themselves unable to call contacts on the other carrier for several hours. Downdetector reports that the issues began around 11am for both carriers and peaked around 5pm. Thousands of subscribers were affected, with most reports coming from New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Cleveland, and other areas. T-Mobile and Cricket Wireless Users also reported connectivity issues.
The Federal Communications Commission tried to ease people’s fears, Announced The company said it was aware that subscribers in several states were experiencing “wireless outages.” It also said it was “currently investigating” the issue. After 7 p.m. ET, the companies Verizon and AT&T Both companies issued statements denying that there was a nationwide outage. Both acknowledged that customers were having trouble calling and texting with other carriers. Verizon said: Gizmodo Reports of the company’s network outage came from people trying to call AT&T subscribers, but neither company took responsibility. The root cause of the problem is currently unknown. AT&T said: CNNHowever, 911 calls went through despite the power outage.

An hour later, AT&T announced that the problem had been resolved. The company said it worked “with other carriers” to find a solution. The company did not name the other carriers, but it was likely Verizon, as most of the affected customers were subscribers of both companies. In February, AT&T suffered a major outage that affected cell service and data connections for more than 70,000 subscribers, and customers reported being unable to even contact 911. Verizon and T-Mobile said at the time that subscribers were unable to contact friends with AT&T numbers.
