The owner says hackers obtained personal information of customers of the Bluetooth tracker brand. Details include names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and Tile device ID numbers. “Like many other businesses, Life360 was recently the victim of an extortion crime,” Hulls wrote. “We received emails from an unknown individual claiming to be in possession of Tile customer information. We immediately began investigating this potential incident and discovered unauthorized access to Tile’s customer support platform (not Tile’s services platform).”
Hulls added that Life360 believes the stolen data was limited to customer names, addresses, email addresses and device IDs. “We have taken and will continue to take steps to further secure our systems from bad actors, and have reported this incident and the extortion attempt to law enforcement,” Hulls wrote. “We remain committed to keeping families safe online and in the real world.”
However, the attack appears to have been about more than just stealing user data. 404 Media, The hackers were able to gain access to some of Tile’s internal tools, including those used to process location data requests submitted by law enforcement agencies.
The hackers said they apparently used login credentials belonging to a former Tile employee to access the company’s customer support system. (Tile said in a separate statement that 404 Media The hackers then allegedly revoked those credentials. The information they obtained also included details of orders and returns, as well as payment methods used by customers. They also appear to have had access to tools that would allow Tile to, for example, transfer ownership of Bluetooth trackers from one email address to another, create administrator accounts, and send push notifications.
