Once one of Hollywood’s most promising actors, Armie Hammer has kept a low profile. Since his career imploded in 2021, Hammer has reappeared on his YouTube show to talk about his addiction, his time in rehab and more.
Hammer was a guest on the show Sunday. “Painful Lessons Podcast” The show is hosted by his friend and self-described “longtime Army buddy” Tyler Ramsey.
During the podcast, Hammer spoke about his time in 2021 being embroiled in the scandal. Several women have alleged they were sexually assaultedHe also Having fantasies about cannibalism. As a result of these allegations, Hammer was removed from the project. Dropped by his talent agency William Morris Endeavor.
“So there were a lot of times where I thought, ‘I can’t take this anymore, this is too much, this is more stress than humans are evolved to handle,'” Hammer said.
Hammer then spoke of a “half-hearted suicide attempt” that he abandoned midway because he was worried about his two children.
“Then I hit a really dark rock bottom. There were times when I was standing on the beach looking out at the ocean and I thought, ‘Yes, this is the end,'” Hammer added.
“And then I swam really far and I thought, ‘That’s it, there’s nothing left for me to do,'” Hammer said.
During the podcast, Hammer also addressed rumors that he is a cannibal, which he again denied, and said he is now sober, had a lengthy stint in rehab, and had overcome childhood trauma and sexual abuse.
Little is currently known about Hammer’s life, but some of his legal troubles were resolved when the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office decided in June 2023 not to prosecute him on rape charges. He posted a statement on Instagram saying he was “so grateful.”
In that same month, Hammer and his ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers Chambers recently starred in the new docudrama “Grand Cayman: Secrets of Paradise,” which explores the lives of the island’s ultra-rich.
A lawyer for Hammer did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment outside of regular business hours.
