Google is making subtle improvements to the Chrome mobile app experience, with the Android and iOS browser now bringing quick access to important information, trending searches, and live sports scores to your device with Discovery Feed.
Chrome ActionsThe pre-set tasks that appear in the browser’s address bar when prompted by a trigger word now include tasks for local businesses. When searching for a nearby restaurant or similar, a shortcut appears at the top of the bar, showing the eatery’s name and address, as well as buttons to call, get directions, read reviews, and more.
The feature is currently available on Chrome for Android, and Google says it will be coming to iOS this fall.
Chrome Mobile also introduces new usage-based shortcut suggestions. If you often type certain phrases to get to certain websites, the browser will learn and surface those links higher in your search suggestions. As the example above shows, if you often type “schedule” to get to the City Metro webpage, that link will be featured more prominently in the suggestions.
Your mobile Chrome Discover feed (the contextual card that appears when you open a new tab or Google app on mobile) now includes live sports scores. When a team that Google has learned your preferences is playing, the Discover card will show live scores and update automatically.
On Android devices, trending searches already appear in Chrome’s address bar (before you start typing), but now it’s available on iOS. Finally, the browser’s tablet address bar is now more in line with the company’s Material You design language. The bar on tablets now shows your current website at the top (where it’s always visible), making it easier to stay there.
