Movie parties aren’t just a thing on a laptop screen, so if you love watching movies and TV shows with friends, it’s worth having an inexpensive TV in your dorm room. Plus, if you’re living with other students who have a lot of free time on their hands, you’ll need a TV for emergencies. Super Smash Bros. TV for small spaces

Vizio has dominated the cheap TV market for decades, and despite Chinese rivals like TCL and Hisense rapidly encroaching on its territory, Vizio still offers some excellent TV sets that won’t strain your budget. It’s a 43-inch system that has most of the features you’d expect from a mid-ranger, including Quantum Dot for richer colors, Dolby Vision HDR support to make games look super smooth, and AMD FreeSync, which means Wi-Fi 6E connectivity means you can enjoy streaming movies (and games!) without a hitch.
Bigger and better TV
If you have space for something a little larger and want the Google TV experience, TCL’s latest Q6 Q-Class set It’s definitely worth a look. The QLED screen is equipped with quantum dots, Dolby Vision, AMD FreeSync, and supports 120Hz gaming simulation. And because it’s powered by Google’s software, the Q6 has built-in Chromecast support and a ton of apps. Best of all, 65-inch model under $500If you’re looking for a slightly higher quality screen, TCL’s Q7 series will usually cost a few hundred more, but it does offer a native 120Hz refresh rate, which may be useful for some PC games.
Must-Have Streaming Accessories
If you’re a heavy Google user, there’s no better streaming device. Chromecast with Google TVUnlike the previous version of Google’s Puck, it has its own interface and a suite of streaming apps to choose from. You can also cast video from your Android device or Chrome browser. Chromecast is a great option if you’re buying a budget TV, but make sure your TV already has Chromecast streaming built in.
If you have an older TV or just want something a little faster than the app that comes with your TV, Roku Streaming Stick 4K is worth picking up right away. It costs just $40 (and often less), supports 4K (with HDR and Dolby Vision), and gives you access to Roku’s entire library of apps. And best of all, it’s so small you can easily take it with you on your travels. The Streaming Stick 4K also supports Apple AirPlay, so you can cast video from your iOS device or Mac. The voice remote that comes with your Roku makes it easy to search without having to hit the on-screen keyboard.

Listen, there’s room for an Apple TV 4K in your budget entertainment setup, especially if you’re willing to save money by opting for a cheaper TV with slower apps. At $129, Apple TV 4K It’s slightly more expensive than the Roku Ultra, but it also works well with iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. If your TV doesn’t support AirPlay, you can also use Apple TV to project content from your phone. The Apple TV platform also has many apps that aren’t available on TVs, and it includes a large library of games.
A good pair of headphones is essential for studying or watching movies late into the night.
