Elon Musk announced via his company X on Tuesday that he plans to relocate the headquarters of both his company and SpaceX from California (to Texas) following “violence” near his offices and a new law signed by California Governor Gavin Newsom that affects LGBTQ+ youth in the state’s schools.

In a series of posts about SpaceX, Musk first announced that SpaceX would be relocating its headquarters from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas, and called Newsom’s latest bill “the final straw in a long line of bills.”

Musk is referring to 1955 Congressional Billwas signed into law in California on Monday. The law prohibits school districts in the state from forcing teachers and school officials to disclose to parents if a student changes their gender identity, gender expression or sexual orientation without the student’s consent.

“I made it clear to Governor Newsom nearly a year ago that this type of legislation would force families and businesses to leave California to protect our children,” Musk said.
The billionaire continued reposting Other X accounts Condemn the new bill.
Musk then announced that Company X would also be relocating from San Francisco to Austin.

Earlier this year, Musk moved SpaceX’s state of incorporation from Delaware to Texas after a Delaware judge invalidated his $56 billion compensation package for Tesla.
Musk’s Tesla has been headquartered in Texas since 2021.

The decision to move the two companies isn’t exactly a surprise. According to a March 2023 report: The Wall Street Journal Musk claimed he had purchased thousands of acres of farmland near Austin to build a town for his employees to live and work.
Musk did not publicly comment on the reports.
