In a teaser video, Google confirmed that its upcoming smartphone lineup will include a new foldable model. The company called the Pixel 9 Pro Fold “the foldable phone built for the Gemini era” in a promotional tweet, and the video even highlighted that generation’s AI chatbot. Like the non-foldable Pixel 9 Pro, this model also has a noticeable camera bump. The lenses are positioned vertically near one side of the phone, so the camera bump is mostly there and doesn’t take up the entire width of the folded device.
Google has yet to officially announce the model, but previous leaks have revealed that Android Authorityhas already revealed a number of details about the upcoming Pixel 9 model. Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) uploaded galleries of the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL and 9 Pro Fold smartphones to its archive. Among the photos is one showing the 9 Pro Fold unfolded, revealing that Google has moved the selfie camera to the inner screen to increase the field of view. It also shows that the display crease has been reduced to 250mm (just under 10 inches).
NCC’s leak also revealed that the upcoming devices will require larger chargers. The outlet’s tests showed that charging speeds are generally faster than previous models, but the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the slowest. We’ll get more details when Google unveils the new phones at its next Made by Google event on August 13.
