The billionaire posted a laughing emoji in response to a meme shared on X making fun of the chaos. The caption of the meme read, “Everything else is down but this app is still up.”
Airlines, banks, retailers and healthcare organisations have been hit with widespread disruption after Microsoft reported issues with its online services linked to problems at cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.
This issue has resulted in some Windows users being unable to access their systems, instead seeing a “blue screen” on their computer screen.
In another post on X, Musk said: Quote And it resurfaced an earlier post I wrote in 2021: “Macrohard >> Microsoft.”
James Boa, a cybersecurity expert and managing director at the Boas Group, told Business Insider that the outage was likely caused by a tool called Falcon from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike.
Boa said the issue could not be resolved automatically and required a manual reboot.
CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz said: X The company said on Friday that it is “actively working with customers affected by the flaws found in a single content update for Windows hosts.”
He added that the issue was not the result of a cyberattack or security incident and that “the issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed.”
Microsoft did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.
