of Palm Beach Town Residents were informed that 1100 South Ocean Boulevard would be closed to traffic starting Saturday morning and would remain closed “24/7 at least through the November general election.”
“This decision was made by the U.S. Secret Service, not town officials or the Town Council.” The warning said“The Town is working closely with the U.S. Secret Service to minimize the impact of this road closure.”
The alert added that the city of Palm Beach will explore legal options to “ensure roads remain open even when protected areas are not occupied.”
Mar-a-Lago’s new security measures come one week after 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The incident has sparked criticism of the U.S. Secret Service, which has shouldered much of the blame for security failings.
Anthony Cangelosi, a former special agent who oversaw the Secret Service’s technical security efforts for presidential candidates, previously told Business Insider that he expects the Secret Service will need “more resources” on-site for future public speaking appearances by Trump.
Cangelosi, now a professor at the City University of New York, said he thinks the Secret Service will also rely more on local police for security at future events.
“That’s a huge false multiplier in these situations,” Cangelosi said. “They know the area well. They can bring in extra manpower. And 99 percent of the time, the local police love it and they love to get involved.”
President Joe Biden last week ordered an independent investigation into security at Trump’s rallies, and Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said the House would launch a “thorough investigation” into the events surrounding the shooting.

Representatives for the Trump campaign, the Trump Organization and the US Secret Service did not respond to Business Insider’s requests for comment.
