Vice President Kamala Harris officially TikTok account On Thursday, he stressed the importance of the social broadcasting app as a way to reach out to voters in the 2024 presidential election.
In her first short TikTok video, Harris explained why she joined the popular app: “I heard about the ‘For You’ page recently so I thought I’d give it a go.”
The vice president was referring to the attention his recently announced presidential campaign has received on social media platforms such as TikTok, where many TikTok users have created a plethora of humorous videos. video — Clip merging included Charli XCX’s “Brat” Summer The trend featuring Harris emerged to celebrate her emergence as the Democratic presidential front-runner following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race.
Harris’s quick adoption of TikTok was fueled by the campaign’s @BidenHQ (now Kamala HQ) page. U.S. lawmakers have expressed concern that TikTok is owned by a Chinese tech company.
TikTok is hugely popular among young Americans and the general public, and has become a key campaign tool for politicians, even though the company does not allow political advertising.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump opened an official TikTok account in June. Earlier this year, Trump told CNBC that while he shared national security and privacy concerns about TikTok, banning the app “would only make Facebook bigger. I consider Facebook to be the enemy of the people.”
