Former President Donald Trump said he hasn’t spent much time preparing for his next debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump was visiting a Vietnamese restaurant in Falls Church, Virginia. Questions from reporters How did you prepare for the debate on September 10th?
“I don’t spend a lot of time on it. I think I’ve been preparing for debates my whole life,” he said during his visit on Monday.
Mr Trump added that he didn’t think it was possible to “pack 30 years’ worth of knowledge into a week”.
“Debate requires a bit of preparation, but I’ve always done it pretty much the same way: You have to know your subject well,” he said.
“And I think I know that better than anybody,” he added.
In response to BI’s request for comment, Trump spokesman Steven Chang said, “As President Trump says, he has been preparing all his life, holding rallies and policy events, and regularly interacting with the press. This is a kind of preparation, which Comrade Kamala rejects.”
A representative for Harris did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment sent outside normal business hours.
Trump’s remarks in Virginia came after he said he had no problem with unmuting his microphone, a change that Harris’ campaign had requested following her disastrous performance in a debate between President Joe Biden and Trump in June.
“It doesn’t matter to me. I’d rather have it on,” Trump said of the microphones. “The fact is, she doesn’t want to debate, so they’re trying to avoid it.”
Trump also wants the debate to be held on Fox News instead of ABC News, citing his pending lawsuit against ABC News and moderator George Stephanopoulos, which he claims creates a “conflict of interest.”
But he had previously Agreed There will be a debate on ABC.

The race is heating up with 70 days to go until the election, with Harris formally accepting the party’s nomination on the final day of the Democratic National Convention on Thursday.
