Sony The company announced on Tuesday that an upgraded version of its console, the PlayStation 5 Pro, will be released on November 7 for $700.
The launch of Sony’s revamped PS5 console comes amid a global decline in console sales. In August, Sony announced that it sold 2.4 million PlayStation 5 consoles in the first quarter, down from 3.3 million in the same period last year.
According to Sony, the PS5 Pro will feature an upgraded graphics card with 67% more compute units than the current standard PS5 model, which will render gameplay up to 45% faster. Sony also touted new artificial intelligence features that will upscale graphics with sharper images and more detailed visuals.
The PS5 Pro features “advanced” ray tracing, a computer graphics technique that simulates the way light bounces off reflective surfaces.
According to Sony, the PS5 Pro will have a 2 terabyte solid-state drive, which is larger than the custom 825GB solid-state drive in the PS5. It will come with Sony’s DualSense wireless controller and support Wi-Fi 7. An Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be sold separately.
Sony said several games will carry the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” designation, giving them the ability to run on the new console, including Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and The Last of Us Part II Remastered.
