A film adaptation of a popular science fiction novel Mickey 7 It’s been in the planning stages for years, but the trailer is finally here. For one thing, now Mickey 17 And fans of the books know exactly what that means: it means there’s even crazier things to come than what’s on the page.
The film was written and directed by one of the great masters of our time, Bong Joon-ho, who appears to have adapted the original book a bit. A little spoiler alert: the book follows the titular Mickey Mouse clones as they navigate the arduous task of colonizing an exoplanet. While the book introduces around seven different Mickey Mouse variants, the film expands that to at least 17. While the trailer shows quite a few clone deaths, we can expect some darkly funny clone deaths in the film.
The novel suits Bong Joon-ho’s tastes: the clones are essentially second-class citizens, existing only to die for their corporate overlords, which leaves plenty of room for the social satire of both works. and The trailer highlights these elements and the result is really fun and believe it or not, really entertaining. We love seeing unique IP in cinemas.
Robert Pattinson playing Mickey will have audiences on the edge of their seats. The cast also includes Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. I’ve read the book, so I know who everyone is playing except for Ruffalo, who appears to be an entirely new character, but who may be an amalgam of several supporting characters. Film adaptations sometimes require dark alchemy.
This could be the first big blockbuster of 2025. It hits theaters on January 31. The book already has one sequel and author Edward Ashton is plotting a third, so there’s also the potential for it to become a franchise.
