After a connecting flight was canceled, a passenger on the plane said WestJet offered to take the bus home, which takes about eight hours.
Chris Henderson, a musician from Canada, was performing at several shows over the weekend at a casino in Grand Prairie, Alberta.
Henderson told an insider he booked a WestJet flight from Grand Prairie to Regina, where he lived, for Sunday.
After landing in Calgary at 2:30 p.m., Henderson checked his phone and saw an email from WestJet. The email stated that the 4:20 PM flight to Regina had been cancelled.
In an email shared by Henderson twitter, WestJet said the flight was scrapped due to “unscheduled maintenance”. The Canadian airline said it was arranging a bus service to depart from Calgary at 4:30 p.m. to carry passengers to Regina.
“It takes seven to seven and a half hours by car, and it takes about nine hours by bus, so I wasn’t willing to sign,” he said.

Henderson immediately contacted WestJet customer service to find out if there were other ways to get to Calgary. He said he managed to book a seat for the next morning’s flight and booked a hotel room for that night. Other passengers in line weren’t so lucky and had to wait until Wednesday to fly to Regina, Henderson said.

He planned to send the hotel receipt to WestJet for a refund.
A WestJet spokesperson said in a statement to Insider that the flight was canceled due to “unscheduled aircraft maintenance.” The airline apologized to passengers for the confusion caused.
