Jamie Siminoff, who founded Ring and created the video doorbell that started it all, going down as CEO of the company. In a blog post, Siminoff explained that invention is his true passion, instead focusing on creating new products for the company as lead inventor.
Apparently, the rest of the Ring team have known about his transition plans and the search for a new chief since last June. The new CEO will also oversee the Blink, Amazon Key and Amazon Sidewalk divisions.
Siminoff shared how Ring’s first video doorbell was created in his garage, and how it has grown into a company that offers products across multiple categories, including cameras, alarms, and even security drones. In 2018, Amazon acquired the company in an attempt to go head-to-head with his Nest, allowing Ring to scale up production and reach customers it couldn’t previously.
But over the past few years, Siminoff has also had to deal with the ramifications surrounding Ring’s close ties with law enforcement. After the revelation, it was denounced by lawmakers and privacy advocates. Specifically, it allowed authorities to keep homeowners’ videos indefinitely and share them with anyone who needed them.Ring will eventually process video requests from law enforcement in 2021.
