For many established businesses, there can come a time when processes become overwhelmed, projects get off track, and the tech stack becomes too complex and disjointed. All these signs point to the need for simplification, the need to “clean up” the business and its systems. To streamline your processes, it’s imperative that you take the time to review what’s no longer needed and keep only what’s adding value to your business, but where do you start?
Below are the members Young Entrepreneur Council We offer some suggestions on where to start and what you might want to get rid of or rethink this year and beyond.
1. Dig into your expenses
A closer look at the income statement is often the best place to start. If you take the time to review the costs incurred over the months, you may be surprised at how many subscriptions and services you no longer use but continue to pay for. In other cases, platform fees may rise unexpectedly, requiring further investigation and cost-saving opportunities. – Jack Perkins, CFO Hub
2. Reduce unnecessary meetings
Reducing unnecessary meetings is a great way to organize your business operations. After auditing the meeting calendar, we identified some recurring meetings that don’t need to happen or happen very often. By eliminating meetings that don’t provide enough value, my team has more time to focus and get work done. As a result, the project has already gone further this year. – Diana Goodwin, market box
3. Restructure how you spend your time
In our experience, the most effective way to “declutter” is not by cutting out business services or subscriptions you don’t really need, but by restructuring how you spend your time. We work with SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time bound). It’s a simple way to prioritize, but more fundamentally, it helps you understand what’s important and what’s not. – Andrew Schrage, Money Crashers Personal Finance
4. Review your company’s knowledge sharing system
One important place to organize is your company’s wiki or knowledge sharing system. Archive old documents or processes that are no longer active. Fix and clean up old project files, remove videos and other outdated marketing materials. This saves space you often pay for, makes it easier for your employees to find what they need, and saves them time and money. – Natalie Lucier, access alley
5. Identify projects with low ROI
Cut back on projects and initiatives with low ROI. Passive business leaders continue to spend their resources on anything that makes a profit. However, every resource you deploy has an opportunity cost. Focus on those with low ROI and reallocate that effort and budget to projects that are more likely to generate higher returns. – Philas Kitane, amelie sleep mattress
6. Discuss disability as a team
Start by asking what unnecessary hurdles your team faces in their daily work that prevent them from performing at peak efficiency. As a leader, you may be so disconnected from your daily life that you are unaware of bottlenecks, unnecessary meetings, and tedious processes. But your team is keenly aware and may have already done the work of brainstorming solutions. – Samuel Saxton, ConsumerRating.org
7. Use less paper
Paper is not your friend. Businesses get so much of it and need so little. The first thing to do is purge all physical files. Banking and tax records he has to keep for seven years, but he can get rid of all the pamphlets he didn’t even think about left behind by other vendors in the last year. Also, consider getting rid of old electronics. – Baruch Rabunski, Safe ranking
8. Evaluate technical tools
With the rapid emergence of new technical apps in the business world, we recommend conducting a semi-annual evaluation of your company’s technical tools. This allows you to identify and eliminate redundant or ineffective tools, assess tool compatibility, streamline processes more, and minimize expenses for your company. – Samuel Timothy, OneIMS
9. Simplify the process
Try to eliminate unnecessary complexity to organize your business operations this year. To do that, you should consider fine-tuning your workflow and removing unnecessary steps to get the job done. To achieve operational excellence, business leaders must seek simplification. Therefore, it’s best to remove tasks and activities that get in the way rather than helping you achieve your set goals. – Stephanie Wells, formidable form
