Microsoft touts it as a great complement to Outlook for iOS. For example, if you haven’t finished drafting an email on your Mac, you can pass the draft to your iPhone. The upcoming Profiles feature works with Focus Mode in macOS to help limit notifications when you’re focused on your work. As with all versions of Outlook, you can use email accounts from a variety of third-party services, including Gmail, iCloud, and Yahoo (Engadget’s parent company).
The company isn’t shy about some of the reasons behind the move.The team is “rebuilding” Outlook for Mac with performance, reliability and accessibility in mind. Free downloads can spur adoption by users who otherwise would not have tried. And, of course, this could drive adoption of Microsoft 365 and Office for customers who want tighter integration with their email software and productivity apps.
Additions may be welcome. There aren’t many great email clients for Mac, but Mozilla’s Thunderbird is the most famous. Some are paid-only or unlock features with a subscription.Even if Outlook’s features don’t always match up, it’s easy to try.
