- A Trump spokesperson called Cohen a “banned felon” in an earlier statement to insiders.
Former President Donald Trump’s former personal attorney and fixer, Michael Cohen, moaned on CNN about Trump potentially joining the ranks of convicted felons.
Speaking to CNN, Cohen admitted that he was “convicted of perjury,” “convicted of a felony,” and “disqualified as an attorney.”
But Cohen, whom a Trump spokesperson previously labeled a “banned felon” in a statement to insiders, said on CNN that the “felon” label could soon apply to Trump as well. I hinted at that.
“By the way, for Donald’s sake, we’re talking about a convicted felon, so see you on Tuesday,” Cohen said, referring to the date Trump is expected to be arraigned.
A grand jury decided Thursday to indict Trump, making him the first former president to face criminal charges. The charges against Trump in New York likely related to paying $130,000 in hush money to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
Cohen was a key witness in an investigation by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. 2018, Cohen plead guilty Felonies associated with paying these hush moneys include tax evasion, campaign finance violations, and bank fraud. He was sentenced to three years in prison in December 2018, New York Supreme Court February 2019.
In a statement provided to insiders on Thursday, Cohen said “no one is above the law.” “Even the former president.
Cohen further emphasized the similarities between himself and Trump, referring to his “Al Capone theory” in an interview with CNN, saying that Trump would be punished for tax evasion like he was.
He has published the “Al Capone Theory” many times, referring to the notorious crime lord.
“I always called this the Al Capone theory,” Cohen told CNN Thursday. “They couldn’t catch him for murder, extortion, racketeering, piracy, etc. They caught him for tax evasion. That crime, Don, I was charged, fined, and convicted.” If that was enough to get me and sent me to jail, why am I any different than Donald Trump?”
Spokesmen for Cohen and Trump did not immediately respond to requests for insider comment sent outside normal business hours.
