Konami today announced that the latest installment in the long-running Bomberman franchise is coming this September. Super Bomberman R2was first published last year and, in honor of the series’ 40th anniversary, builds on the foundation of its 2017 predecessor by adding level-building and a quirky 15v1 mode.
In this installment, Konami added a castle mode. It features “attack versus defense” gameplay in which you attempt to outrun or defend fortifications. A team of 15 people tries to open all the treasure chests to unlock the passage to the castle. The only keeper tries to keep at least one locked before the game ends. It looks as chaotic as you can imagine. Additionally, returning game modes include Standard (classic gameplay), Story Mode (single-player adventure), Battle 64 (battle royale), and Grand Prix (“Compete for crystals and knock out other players”). It is included.
Meanwhile, the new stage editor lets you create and share Castle Mode stages. Konami envisions a strong community of his creators online offering virtually unlimited content, following the trend set by franchises such as LittleBigPlanet and Mario Maker.
