San Francisco supervisor Aaron Peskin told CNBC that he was arrested for the fatal stabbing of Cash App founder Bob Lee on April 4.
Early Thursday, local San Francisco news outlets mission local reported that police went to Emeryville, Calif., with a warrant to arrest the suspect, but CNBC has not yet been able to confirm the identity of the suspect, so he is not named here. However, according to reports, the suspect worked in the tech industry and knew Lee.
Peskin separately told NBC Bay Area that San Francisco police arrested an individual in Emeryville and that “apparently” the murder “was not an accidental act,” but did not provide further details. A press conference will be held on Thursday to reveal more details.
San Francisco police find Lee, 43, at 2:35 a.m., stabbed in a deserted area in downtown San Francisco. Police said the man was taken to hospital but was not in a life-threatening condition and later died.
Mr. Lee worked as Chief Product Officer for the cryptocurrency company MobileCoin.He used to work for Square (now block) is a financial technology company co-founded by former Twitter chief Jack Dorsey. Lee created his Cash App, a money transfer service.
He also invested in other tech companies, including Elon Musk’s SpaceX venture and social audio app Clubhouse, according to his LinkedIn profile.
He was widely praised by former colleagues, including Joshua Goldbard, CEO of MobileCoin. in a twitter thread Lee was a “great” visionary with a “kaleidoscopic” mind.
