Amazon is joining the race for generative AI. Bedrock is the company’s new API for Amazon Web Services (AWS) that allows developers to use and customize AI tools that generate text and images. Think of it as a cloud-based, composable alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and DALL-E 2, aimed at enterprises and developers.
AWS customers can use Bedrock to create, build, summarize text, classify images, and more chatbots based on text prompts. Users include Amazon’s Titan Foundation model (FM), Anthropic’s Claude (Google-backed ChatGPT competitor by former OpenAI employee), AI21’s Jurassic-2 (Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch language) and Stable Diffusion (a popular open source image generator). Additionally, companies and developers can customize how the model works based on their input. according to CNBCThis should (in theory) address the significant privacy concerns of businesses entering sensitive data.
Amazon sees the different AI models it offers as a way to offer flexibility to its customers. The company’s description reads: ML features such as experiments to test different models and pipelines to manage FM at scale without the need to manage infrastructure. ”
“Most companies want to use these large scale language models, but training a really good model costs billions of dollars, takes years, and most companies don’t want to do it. No,” said Amazon CEO Andy Jassy. Said CNBC on thursday. “So what they want to do is start with a base model that is already big and good, and then they want to be able to customize it for their own purposes.
According to Amazon, C3.ai, Pegasystems, Accenture and Deloitte are among the early companies wanting to try Bedrock. The company has yet to announce pricing for his AWS toolset and is now opening access through a waiting list. You can read more and apply for admission to the project website.
