Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made headlines when he interacted with a man who opposed abortion rights during a university visit.
A clip was filmed and posted to Reddit by user @NoahFromCanada When Prime Minister Trudeau visited the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg last week.
In the clip, a young man tells Trudeau that he is a supporter of the right-wing Canadian People’s Party and that “they are mostly Christians and I am against mandated vaccines”, so he is against abortion rights. also says they are against it.
“Do you think women should have the right to choose what happens to their bodies?” Trudeau asks him.
“Personally, no,” the man replied, asking Trudeau, “Do you think we should be able to choose what happens to a woman’s body?”
“I personally don’t think people should be allowed to abort a baby if they’re sleeping,” he replied, prompting Trudeau to respond incredulously, “Wow, wow.”
The two continue arguing before Trudeau asks.
“That’s where it gets complicated,” the man replies.
“No, it doesn’t get complicated, yes or no,” says Trudeau. “It’s all too common. Women are being raped all the time and this has to be taken seriously… Can a raped woman have an abortion?”
“Well, we’re split 50/50,” the man replied, saying he couldn’t come up with a definitive answer.
“Well, it looks like we need to think a little more and pray a little more.”
