Immersive technology could play an important role in future car manufacturing.
Earlier this year, audi active sphereis a unique concept vehicle featuring a virtual user interface powered by Augmented Reality (AR) technology. This week, the German automaker revealed that its next-generation car was actually developed using his AR tech as well.
The Audi activesphere does away with traditional buttons and touchscreen controls in favor of a virtual interface that can be accessed using AR glasses. The system can recognize which part of the vehicle you are looking at and display interactive controls for each corresponding component. A look at AC fans, for example, reveals several temperature controls that can be accessed via hand-tracking technology.
Jan Pflueger, Creative Technologist at Audi, said: Design for official release.
To realize this futuristic system, Audi magic leap 2 A combination of mixed reality headsets and Audi Design Studio is being used to design the company’s fourth Sphere concept car.
“At the heart of the new system is an innovative mixed reality headset, available separately for driver and passenger. access,” the company said in a press release.
“The Audi ActiveSphere Concept is the first to use this pioneering generation of technology, which adds a dimension of interaction to the superposition of the physical and digital worlds. With optical precision, highest resolution and excellent contrast, this system brings control surfaces and displays invisible to the naked eye into the field of view of the user behind the steering wheel.”
