Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has closed the door to the 2024 Senate election, according to her publicist.
“She has no plans to run for Senate in 2024. She has no plans to primary for Gillibrand,” said Ocasio-Cortez spokesperson Lauren Hitt. Politico.
A potential AOC candidacy was one of the only obstacles to Gillibrand’s run for re-election. The Hill report. One of Gillibrand’s most powerful challengers is no longer a threat to her campaign, as the superstar New York Congressman has refused to challenge the Democratic Senator.
In 2021, Ocasio-Cortez told an insider that the legions of progressive fans who love her don’t dream of her defeating House and Senate leaders, or even winning the White House.
“It’s hard to hang out alone,” she said.
A representative for Ocasio-Cortez did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
