Some Google employees aren’t happy with CEO Sundar Pichai’s salary packet amid the company’s cost cutting.
Several workers have vented their anger on internal systems by sharing memes criticizing the chief executive who received a raise during a difficult time for the company. CNBC reported.
According to the outlet, one meme showed Lord Farquaad from “Shrek” and quoted his infamous line. Per CNBC, the accompanying text read:
In January, Google laid off approximately 12,000 employees, or 6% of its global workforce. At the time, Pichai said he takes “full responsibility for the decisions that have brought us here” because the company “has been hired because of economic realities that are different from those we are currently facing.” Since then, the company has continued to infamously cut perks.
However, Pichai’s compensation packet increased last year with stock compensation worth $218 million. The executive will be paid a total of $226 million in 2022, making him one of the highest-paid CEOs in the United States, according to court filings.
However, as Insider previously reported, at the company’s all-hands meeting, he said Google executives would “significantly cut annual bonuses.”
A Google representative did not immediately respond to an Insider’s request for comment, which was made outside of normal business hours.
