WhatsApp’s latest update refreshes work-focused video calling platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Messaging apps are rolling out screen-sharing features that record and display what’s on your screen with the other party on a video call. WA beta information report.
A phone icon with an arrow represents its functionality, alongside long-standing tools like camera toggle, video mute or disable that appear at the bottom of WhatsApp calls. When you click the new button, you’ll get a prompt asking if you want to start recording or casting on WhatsApp. This includes the disclaimer that we have access to passwords, photos and payment details that you have shown. If so, all you have to do is click Start Now. You can then stop sharing your screen at any time during the call.
Screen sharing is currently only available to select Android beta testers, but we plan to roll it out to more users in the coming weeks. However, it may not work for older Android models, large group calls, or users who have not downloaded the latest version of WhatsApp. For those of you with an iPhone or iPad who don’t feel like he’s tied to WhatsApp, Apple incorporated a similar screen-sharing feature into his FaceTime calls in January.
