OpenAI announced several things New update for iOS app, including shortcut integration. Shortcuts can now create ChatGPT prompts and save them as links between AI tools and various apps. For example, you can ask ChatGPT to answer a question or find facts, and then message the answer to a friend or save it as a note. You can also ask Siri to launch ChatGPT or create shortcuts for these. ChatGPT for iOS already leverages OpenAI’s Whisper speech recognition for voice input, and Siri extends its accessibility even further.
A new drag-and-drop feature further integrates ChatGPT across iOS devices, letting you pull messages out of the interface and into other apps. This is similar to the physical version of shortcuts, so it’s up to you which method you use.
ChatGPT will also have better support across iPads in the future. Previously, iPad users were unable to get a full-screen experience when using apps. OpenAI simply formatted the app for the iPhone-sized display. Now it takes up all the real estate on the screen and ideally provides a choppy experience.
This update follows the recent expansion of ChatGPT across Apple’s platforms, with OpenAI first releasing its iOS app to US users in mid-May, and expanding to 11 more countries soon. Prior to these updates, the app was already syncing conversations to a computer and giving a ChatGPT Plus subscriber access to her GPT-4. ChatGPT continues to grow its presence on Apple devices, but Android owners still have to wait for the app.
