HSBC files patents for Metaverse and NFTs

UK banking institution HSBC has filed a series of trademark applications related to the Metaverse and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

June 12 filing Present to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) a bank trademark, including Metaverse Banking, Consulting and Financial Services, as well as a virtual credit card representing the potential launch of Metaverse bank branches and further virtual banking services.

HSBC has also filed trademarks related to online marketplaces specifically aimed at NFTs. This isn’t the first time HSBC has gone virtual. In December 2022, It has been submitted Trademark filings for numerous crypto and NFT related technologies.

Interest in and prices for Metaverse properties have plummeted recently, but regardless, HSBC has seen a growing number of companies show interest in exploring virtual worlds.

In February 2022, JP Morgan became the first bank to open a virtual branch in Decentraland’s Metaverse. Since then, Visa, PayPal and Western Union have all applied for the Metaverse trademark.

Queen’s Eye Metaverse Trademark

HSBC is not the only UK powerhouse looking to virtual worlds. Queen Productions Ltd, the production company that manages the intellectual property of iconic British rock band Queen, has also filed for a series of patents related to the Metaverse and NFTs.

June 12 patent application A report filed with the USPTO shows Queen’s plans to offer NFT-certified media and virtual goods, including clothing, footwear and accessories.

Additionally, Queen is looking into developing virtual and mixed reality software.

Yuga Labs Teases HV-MTL Forge NFT Game

Yuga Labs has announced the launch of its latest NFT game, the ninth in a ten-step game-focused storyline.

Yuga’s June 21st tweet stated that the HV-MTL Forge event will begin on June 29th and will involve users building homes for their respective NFT characters.

First announced in March 2023, the HV-MTL NFT project is a 30,000-piece collection of “Mech” NFTs adjacent to the project’s flagship collection, the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC).

Similar to its predecessor game Dookey Dash, players battle in a competitive tier-based environment. However, instead of competing for high scores, community votes determine the winner.

According to Slim Jim, a total of 10,000 NFTs are currently being recruited on their website. The NFT, dubbed “GigaJim,” can reportedly be minted for free on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon (MATIC) and will function as a digital membership card in the future.

Marketed as a way for cryptocurrency and jerky enthusiasts alike to join the “Longboy Gang,” NFTs offer owners access to perks and perks to be unveiled in the near future.
