Donald Trump’s infamous Access Hollywood tape, key to last month’s E. Jean Carroll defamation verdict, is now starring in the former president’s Manhattan hush case, new prosecution filings show became clear.
Prosecutors say the tape “features prominently” in a lawsuit in which President Trump allegedly forged business documents to hide a $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.
The payment to Daniels came just days before the 2016 election. At the time, the Trump campaign was already reeling after a tape had just been released in which he boasted of grabbing a woman’s genitals.
Of the 209 pages of Trump’s depositions in the Carroll case, only 98 have been made public.
In their new filing, Prosecutors are defending the subpoena sent to Carroll’s attorneys, demanding the full text of the deposition and video, and countering President Trump’s efforts to quell it.
A dossier page already made public through the Carroll case stated, “Many of the subjects testified by the defendants under oath are related to the facts at issue in this case and are therefore relevant to this case. It makes it clear that it’s important,” the filing said. entire sediment.
“For example, defendant testified at the time of deposition about statements he made on so-called Access Hollywood tapes,” the filing says.
“Access Hollywood tapes released in October 2016 during defendant’s presidential campaign featured prominently in the People’s Lawsuit,” the filing said.
Natasha Stoinoff and Jessica Leeds, who testified in Carroll’s defamation trial, said defendants also testified against allegations of sexual misconduct by two other women during the October 2016 election campaign. bottom.
“How defendants dealt with allegations of a sexual nature by women in the months leading up to the 2016 presidential election are clearly relevant to the Peoples allegations,” the petition adds.
Prosecutors, led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, said late in the campaign that Trump and his staff feared the Access Hollywood tapes would undermine their viability as candidates, especially among female voters. said he was concerned.
Plans to pay Daniels surfaced shortly after the tape was released. Thanks to this money, her testimony that she slept with Trump in 2006, when her son with Melania Trump was four months old, was never made public.
Mr Trump has denied having sex with Mr Daniels and in April pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush-money payments.
The lawsuit is scheduled to go to trial on March 25, 2024.
