A big surprise came yesterday when all members of the RICS standards and regulation committee submitted their resignations.
The group’s president and chair of its governing council, Anne Gray, issued a statement on both the group’s website and in an email sent to members yesterday evening, citing the RICS Standards and Regulatory Board (SRB). Chairman Dame Janet Paraskeva and all its members said: Members chose to resign their roles.
The members are Bruce Haswell, Lee Miller, Richard Waterhouse, Dere Oekanmi, and five independents.
The SRB is responsible for exercising RICS’ regulatory functions, including strategy, governance, structure, policy, and operational oversight in the public interest. It is independently led and reports to the Operating Council.
It also oversees RICS professional standards, professional entry and admission, education and qualification standards, regulatory affairs, dispute resolution services, and the activities of regulatory courts.
A statement issued by RICS last night said: “RICS is a strong believer in strong self-regulation in the public interest.
“We would like to thank Dame Janet and her colleagues at SRB for their contributions to RICS. Their contributions have been invaluable across many areas including new rules of conduct, fire protection and assessment. .
“Our operations continue to operate at full capacity and the continuity of our regulatory functions will not be compromised.
“Our staff and governing bodies remain committed to professional assessment, professional standard setting and professional regulation.
“We have begun our search for a replacement Chairman and board member and look forward to working with them to drive RICS’ transformation program forward.”
