In a surprise move, AMD announced a new processor for its aging AM4 platform. The Ryzen 5 5600X3D is the company’s It turns into a 6-core, 12-thread processor. Additionally, AMD plans to sell this CPU at a low price of $229, but there’s a catch. The company will only offer the new processor in the following ways: as a US retailer, , does not ship most of the items it sells to online shoppers. Additionally, 5600X3D stock is limited and the CPU will be discontinued once Micro Center stock is depleted.
All of this is a shame because the 5600X3D could be a great upgrade for anyone looking to extend the life of their AM4 motherboard and even improve their gaming performance. Similarly, the 5600X3D trades off 96MB L3 cache for slower clock speeds and more power consumption. The 5800X3D is slow for some tasks, but combines features that make it a great processor for gaming in general. Expanding the L3 cache often alleviates game bottlenecks, allowing you to get the most performance out of your GPU. Plus, the fact that it’s an AM4 processor means you can save money on new builds by not having to buy DDR5 RAM.
The 5600X3D will be available on July 7th.
