A well-known real estate brokerage and auctioneer business has gone out of business following the death of its owner in May.
Omar’s T Patterson Stewart is set to close following the passing of Patterson Stewart, a respected agent and auctioneer who founded the company in 1967.
Prior to the permanent closure of the business, our High Street office will be open Tuesdays through July or by appointment.
Mr. Patterson’s wife, Rene Stewart, called the closure “the end of an era.”
“Patterson put a lot of time and energy into building a successful business,” she said. “He founded this business in his 1967, initially operating from its grounds on George’s Street in Omagh.
“A few years later we moved to 25 High Street, rented from the late Harold and Catherine Wilson.
“In 1971 the opportunity presented itself to buy an office. It was a spacious office in the heart of Omagh, so we jumped at the opportunity. The backyard was also a great addition.
“When Harold Wilson died in 1997, we took the opportunity to buy the Carlyle Bookshop, which was a bookstore until a charity shop opened about three years ago.”
Rene said her late husband was an “extremely loyal” businessman who “always did what was best for people”.
Rene herself was a well-known face in the office, taking full-time administrative duties after retiring from teaching in 1996.
“I wanted to retire years ago, but Patterson never heard of it,” she added.
“He always did what was best for his customers and was honest and sincere with everyone.
Until April, less than a month after his death, the late Patterson Stewart ran a number of livestock markets over the years, including Newtown Stewart, Fintona and most recently Five Miletown.
Rene concludes: “Now that the business is over, we can say that an era has ended.
“We would like to thank all our clients for their custom and support over the years.”
