Labor promises tomorrow it will use AI to speed up claims for benefits and match unemployed people with jobs.
Shadowwork and Pensions Secretary Jonathan Ashworth is set to announce plans to use the technology to streamline job center services if Labor wins the next election.
He will say he wants to reform the way the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and Job Center work to make it more streamlined.
The proposal would allow unemployed people to scan their resumes with AI technology and match them with job listings in their area. This eliminates the need for job seekers and work coaches to hunt around for open vacancies.
The technology could also be used to analyze real-time labor market demand based on vacancies in specific sectors and industries.
And the party will use this technology, which is already partially used in some areas, to combine existing data sets and determine the entitlements of those eligible for certain benefits, such as pension credits. I’m planning on making sure I don’t miss it.
The party said billions of pounds worth of welfare went unclaimed because people were unaware they were eligible.
I They understand that Labor plans to use the existing DWP budget to implement these reforms, but officials said they did not anticipate the additional costs.
Ashworth did not give a timeline for how long it would take for reforms to be implemented nationwide under the next Labor government. But labor officials believe work could begin on day one of the new government.
Speaking in London, Ashworth said he plans to use AI to tackle the £8.3bn costs of fraud and mistakes, reduce waiting times and give vulnerable people access to the payments they deserve. talk.
“For too long, DWP has provided analog services in the AI age,” Ashworth will say.
Workers say examples of how technology is being used include France, where an automated system analyzes resumes and suggests additional skills a job seeker may have, and an app that lets users visualize potential jobs. emphasized Belgium.
In a speech at the social market foundation think tank, Ashworth said: “By leveraging powerful new AI tools, job centers will be able to provide more personalized and customized support to job seekers, helping them find jobs that match their skill sets faster. I will be able to get a job.”
“By using AI, Jobcentre’s work coaches will be able to more effectively assist job seekers with resume analysis tools and interview practice preparation.”
He will also argue that better use of technology can help combat fraud and reduce mistakes. “The shocking amount of fraud and error (more than £8bn at the latest figures) overseen by this Conservative government and deemed disgracefully acceptable, will make greater use of machine learning and pattern detection techniques. We can face it by doing,” Ashworth said.
This is the latest phase of Labor’s welfare reform programme. Labor will keep the current universal health benefit scheme, but Mr Ashworth has previously announced plans to change how sickness and disability benefits work.
He said Labor would end repeated work assessments for disability and sickness benefit recipients, make it easier for them to get jobs, and introduce further employment support reforms.
