Microsoft’s Bing Chat is no longer exclusive to the Edge browser and is now expanding to Chrome and Safari. The Verge report. “As part of our testing on other browsers, we are bypassing access to Bing Chat on Safari and Chrome to select users,” a Microsoft spokesperson said. The Verge. “We are excited to expand access to even more users once standard testing procedures are complete.”
This seems more than just a test, as many users (including me on Chrome but not Safari) got access. However, there are some limitations. You must be logged into your Microsoft account and the prompt is limited to 2,000 characters (4,000 in Edge). Conversation resets after 5 queries instead of 30 and always asks to download Edge (Microsoft, never change).
Bing Chat leverages OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4, allowing users to access the latter’s features without paying. However, there are some differences as Bing Chat has access to Bing Search whereas ChatGPT-4 itself does not, allowing it to provide more up-to-date information and response sources. However, OpenAI’s chat usually provides more detailed responses. Recently, the following paper was published. ChatGPT-4 degradedbut some experts downplay the conclusions.
In addition to releasing for other browsers, Microsoft also introduced Dark Mode to Bing Chat. To use it, click the hamburger menu in the top right and select Appearance/Dark. This feature is not yet available to all users.
