Samsung announced Wednesday that AI features in the Galaxy S24 will be coming to phones (including foldables) and tablets launched last year in late March. Today’s announcement makes that device list official and adds a more specific arrival date of late March 2024.
This group of 2023 devices is expected to receive a software update with the S24 series’ AI features next month. These include communication-based AI tricks such as Chat Assist (adjust message tone and translate messages), Live Translate (real-time voice and text translation), and Interpreter (split-screen translation of face-to-face conversations). By 2024, he plans to bring this experience to over 100 million Galaxy users and continue to innovate how to leverage the endless possibilities of mobile AI.” Samsung’s President TM Roh said in a press release.
In our review of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, we were mostly impressed by the AI features. “Using AI may not be the most exciting development these days, when everyone is trying to incorporate AI into everything, but the S24 Ultra is a more powerful and well-rounded device.” Engadget ‘s Sam Rutherford wrote in January.
He noticed some issues with the AI tools at launch, but found that most of them were really useful complements to the high-end hardware in phones. He wrote, “Samsung finally has an answer to sophisticated features that were previously only available in the Pixel family.” “Admittedly, S24’s tools aren’t as sophisticated as his Google offerings, but they can get you 80 to 90 percent done.”
