After teasing yesterday (again), Samsung finally showed off The Galaxy Ring was unveiled in physical form at Mobile World Conference (MWC 2024), with some additional details revealed. Of course, the device is centered around health and wellness, and will be available in three colors: Platinum Silver, Gold, and Ceramic Black. It is scheduled to be released later this year.
Samsung didn’t say much about the Galaxy Ring when it first showed renders of the device at Unpacked last month. All we knew at the time was that it was a wellness-oriented wearable comparable to Oura, and that it had an unknown set of sensors.
Journalists weren’t allowed to photograph it today, but according to the images provided (below), and some additional images provided by Samsung, it appears to be a thick, concave ring about the same size as the Oura. It is shown. The increased girth is no surprise considering the electronics cached inside.
still, The Verge I noted that it was lighter than I expected and that it comes in sizes 5-13 and is marked S-XL on the inside of the band. Battery size (and charge interval) varies by size, from 14.5mAh to 21.5mAh. Battery life is unknown, but Oura will last up to 7 days between charges.
According to Samsung VP Dr. Hon Pak’s blog, the ring tracks sleep based on heart rate, movement, and breathing, and provides advice to users based on that. The company will also collect data from its partner Natural Cycles. The company already has fertility tracking on its Galaxy Watch, which aligns with a key feature of Oura.
Galaxy Ring also offers a new tool called My Vitality Score that measures alertness so users can see if they’re at their best. Feedback is available through “booster cards” that use your sleep and other data collected by the device to provide science-based tips.
Galaxy Ring is now part of the Samsung Health ecosystem and is compatible with Galaxy Watch. This means you can use both devices at the same time to track your health and get high-quality data as a result. That being said, the benefit of ring wearables is that sleeping with the ring on is much less cumbersome.
We expect to reveal more details in the coming months, including the exact sensor suite, pricing, and release date. Galaxy Ring is only compatible with Samsung Galaxy phones, but the company plans to make it work with other Android devices later. However, Park said compatibility with iOS has not yet been determined.
