Activision studio Toys for Bob has announced that it is withdrawing from corporate competition. This comes just weeks after Activision Blizzard’s parent company, Microsoft, affected 86 employees with Toys for Bob. That’s more than half of the staff.
The developer says that going indie allows it to return to “being a small, nimble studio,” harking back to its early days in the 1980s and 1990s, when it produced hits such as Stated. star control. To that end, the company has already said it is developing new games, but there won’t be any official announcements for a while.
Additionally, there doesn’t seem to be any hard feelings toward former parent company Activision and, er, grandparent company Microsoft. Toys for Bob said that both companies are “very supportive of our company’s new direction and are confident that we will continue to work closely together on our future.”
