This feature adds a basic text editing interface with some text formatting options, such as embedded media and the ability to create bulleted lists. It also appears that articles may exceed the 25,000 character limit currently set for the “Long Post” feature for premium subscribers. Initial testing showed that the character limit for articles was just over 100,000 characters, or about 15,000 words.

It’s worth noting that Twitter started implementing long-form posts long before Elon Musk acquired the company. The company showed off an early version, originally called “Notes,” with the goal of attracting newsletter writers and other creators to the service. Musk acknowledged that the publishing tools are still in development.
The rollout of the publishing tool is notable since Musk has often been hostile toward journalists on his platform.Last year, Musk posted a link to newsletter platform Substack. Being included in users’ “For You” feeds limits access to the service for many independent writers. The X is also from a news article shared on the platform last fall (the headline was eventually returned in a much smaller font).
